Lakheni was founded by Nokwethu Khojane and Lauren Drake in 2015.
After spending time with communities in Khayelitsha while doing their MBA research, Nokwethu and Lauren were struck by the untapped potential that exists within these networks. The challenges that exist in low income communities are well documented. What is often under-appreciated is the beauty, resilience and creativity that is interwoven with the difficulties.
Lakheni was formed out of the desire to help unlock the potential and strengths of communities in order for them to facilitate their own paths towards finding solutions to their own challenges.
Nokwethu is an optimistic realist with a rebellious talent for reimagining anything we accept as the status quo. She brings this brand to Lakheni as CEO. She has experience in the FMCG industry working in trade marketing with informal and independent retailers.
Lauren is a free-spirited creative who thrives at the intersection of practicality and innovation. She is the COO of Lakheni and brings her experience as an engineer and project manager of infrastructural development projects to the team.
